Mediation is like a 3 legged race. The participants are tied together, whether they like it or not. One person rushes, both tumble to the ground. One person lags behind, they both fall again.

Monitoring the pace of a mediation session is crucial. It’s a key mediator skill to be able to acknowledge that one person wants to speed the process along while the other may participate more reluctantly….and to meet both of their needs.
